Trainee Lure Driver - Advert

• 35 hours per week (salary)
• Primarily based at Addington, Christchurch with the expectation to travel on occasions across NZ and Australia

Christchurch GRC is a greyhound racing club in New Zealand, the activities of which are bound by the rulings and dictates of Greyhound Racing New Zealand (GRNZ). Christchurch GRC operates in excess of 140 full TAB licences at its home venue, Addington raceway in Christchurch every year. In addition, the club provides a trials facility for club members and other greyhound owners and trainers to exercise and educate their greyhounds.

The club is currently seeking a trainee lure driver to join the team. The Christchurch GRC has created a trainee program to allow the club and industry to ensure continual growth and achieve the highest level of performance and behavioural standards.

The trainee lure driver will learn to operate machinery to ensure that a lure runs a set distance in front of the leading greyhound to entice the greyhound to chase after the lure. Along with learning this position the trainee lure driver will learn about other roles within the club.

Ideally the successful applicant will be able to demonstrate the following:
• Responding swiftly to emergencies or potential hazards
• Ability to troubleshoot challenges
• Ability to communicate with different stakeholders
• Ability to follow processes and procedures
• Written communication skills to complete workplace documentation and reports
• Hand / eye coordination

Desirable but not essential:
• Previous lure driver experience
• Operating the lure equipment in accordance with safe operating and race day procedures
• Reporting problems with the lure operation to relevant staff in a timely manner

In this role you will require to have a current New Zealand’s driver’s licence and a New Zealand passport as international travel will be included as part of the training process.
